New Orleans Public Library
Mid City Branch
4140 Canal St
New Orleans, LA 70119

Hello Valued New Orleans Lettering Association Member,
Our guild is experiencing some changes. Surely, you have noticed our lack of meetings. After the 2017 Reggie Class, we need to plan for Fall of 2018. If you are interested in the future of NOLAA, please join us for a meeting on June 9th. We will discuss the coming year and will be eager to hear your concerns and suggestions. In order for the guild to flourish, we need YOU.
If you have any ideas or suggestions that you would like to see discussed or if you cannot attend the meeting, please email them to eugphoto@bellsouth.net.
We finally settled on a meeting place for this June, the newly renovated library on Canal Street.  Please come and voice your ideas for the future of our precious guild.

Sorry to Have Been Out of Touch

We have unfortunately had no success in securing venues for the upcoming meetings this year.  So it is with great regret that we find it necessary to suspend our meetings in April and May.  We continue to explore new meeting sites and if anyone has any suggestions for the future please pass them on.

Do to the infrequency of our meetings this year, we have decided to extend the current membership period through 2018. Therefore, if you joined NOLAA for the 2016-2017 year your membership will be in effect until May 2018.

On a happier note, congratulations to Amy Morvant who is this year’s recipient of IAMPETH’s Tate Grant. Amy will use her scholarship to attend the Spencerian Saga and we can’t think of a more talented or deserving candidate.

January 2017 Meeting

We have hit a snag in scheduling our January meeting.  Our usual venue, the Jefferson Parish East Bank Regional Library, is updating its meeting rooms.  This is good news and bad.  It means that our future meetings there will have updated more user friendly equipment, however, the facility will be closed to us for January.

Regretfully, we have been forced to cancel our January meeting.

The bright spot on our horizon is the year long course with Reggie Ezell which begins in February.  There is still room in the class and those of us who have signed up to take it can’t wait to begin.  If you haven’t already given it full consideration, please do so.  It is a once in a life time opportunity to study with a most generous and talented calligrapher and teacher.

October 2016 Meeting

img_0265

Saturday, October 8, 2016

10:00 am to 1:00 pm

East Bank Regional Library

4747 West Napoleon Ave., Metairie

In September we began our study of Copperplate with the basic strokes and the lowercase letters.  We will continue our exploration of this elegant hand by focusing on the capital letters.  Copperplate capitals can be ornate and filled with flourishes or they can express the simple beauty of the oval and the compound curve.  Since you need a firm foundation on which to build, we will concentrate on the unadorned letters.  You have to walk before you can run.
