Happy Mail. Decorated Envelopes. Mail Art. Whatever name you call it – fun is a big, unstated element.

Creating mail art can be an informal way to sustain your calligraphy practice when life becomes too hectic for structured practice. Depending on your time and what you want to achieve, creating mail art can take a few minutes, hours, or days if you have extra time, and the results can be elaborate or understatedly elegant. The primary goal is two-fold: (1) you have fun and (2) you share your joy with someone else!

For this demonstration, we will look through examples for range and inspiration, discuss postal limitations, and start with some basics.

What to bring

Writing instrument of choice: nib, pen or marker
Ink of choice, if needed
Envelopes optional and will be provided

Supply Swap

Are extra supplies collecting dust and invading your work area? Bring them to the supply swap! Please bring items that are in good, usable condition, and something you would be excited to receive. You do not need to contribute to the swap to participate. Who knows ... that extra stash of supplies that did not quite work out for you may become someone else's next favorite thing!
